26th May – 9th June 2019

If you fancy taking in a bit of tennis, then towards the end of May the French Open Tennis tournament is held at the Stadt Roland Garos in Paris.

If you are a fan of tennis then you will know that Roland Garos is the French equivalent of Wimbledon. It’s one of a collection of annual international tournaments held in different countries throughout the World, and are much sort after trophies if you are a professional tennis player.

The series of tournaments start off in January in Australia at the Australian Open, the French Open is the second tournament of the year, with Wimbledon coming a month or so after Roland Garos.  The fourth and final tournament is held in the US at the end of August at the Flushing Meadows Stadium.

Even if you don’t particularly follow tennis, you will most likely have heard of players such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Serena Willams, and of course Andy Murray, who at the moment is looking unlikely to play at Roland Garos, as a long term hip injury has kept him pretty much on the sidelines for over a year now.  The rumours were that he would try to make it back for Wimbledon, but either way 2019 is widely reported to be the year Andy Murray bows out of the World tennis stage.

So where to stay when visiting the French Open at Roland Garos.  Well, staying in Paris is an option, but during the tournament prices will go up and of course accommodation is limited, or you could opt for something outside of Paris and use the fantastic Parisiene public transport to get around Paris.
